White sucker, carp, golden shiner, black bullhead, yellow perch, green sunfish, white crappie, and hybrid sunfish were found at below local median numbers. Bowfin, yellow bullhead, northern pike, walleye, largemouth bass, pumpkinseed, bluegill, and black crappie were found at above local median levels. The numbers of northern pike are higher than the local median but significantly lower than those seen in the 1979 and 1975 nettings. Stocking walleye fingerlings has been successful in developing and maintaining a population of walleyes with good size distribution, and their abundance has remained relatively stable since the 1975 netting.Bluegill abundance has been increasing since 1975 but the size distribution is adequate. Approximately 27% of the sampled bluegills were 6.0\" in length or more. Both white and black crappies are less abundant than in the previous two nettings but the size distribution is similar.

Muskellunge stocking currently consists of stocking fall fingerlings at a rate of up to 1.0 fish/surface-acre (2,251 fish) biennially on even numbered years.

\nWalleye were sampled above the median level for abundance and mean weight in the gill net catch. Overall, the gill net catch rate for WAE has remained relatively stable since 2003. The average size of WAE sampled in 2009 was 18.2 inches and 2.67 pounds. Approximately 44 percent of all WAE captured measured 20.0 inches or longer, with 12 percent being over 24 inches in length. Muskellunge (MUE) were captured within the normal range for abundance during this assessment with the average fish being 38.7 inches and 13.3 pounds. Northern Pike (NOP) were captured above the median level for abundance with the average fish being 20.9 inches and 2.05 pounds. Approximately 9 percent of all NOP captured measured 26.0 inches or longer. Largemouth Bass (LMB) were sampled within normal levels for abundance and averaged 11.5 inches and 0.9 pounds. Growth rates for all game fish species were found to be average. Rock Bass were sampled above the median level for abundance in trap nets with the average fish being 7.8 inches and 0.5 pounds. Yellow Perch were sampled below median levels for abundance in gill nets, but catch rates were up from those observed in 2007. The average size of YEP sampled was 6.4 inches and 0.11 pounds. Black Crappie (BLC) were sampled above median levels for abundance in gill nets with the average fish being 6.5 inches and 0.15 pounds. Approximately 3 percent of the BLC sampled measured 9.0 inches or larger. White Crappies were also captured, but in relatively low numbers. Bluegill (BLG) were sampled in relatively high abundance with the average fish being 5.7 inches and 0.15 pounds. Less than 1 percent of all BLG captured measured 7.0 inches or longer. Pumpkinseed sunfish (PMK) were also captured in above average numbers and exhibited a similar size structure to that of BLG. In general, growth rates for panfish species were found to be below average.

Forest Lake is a 2,251 acre meso/eutrophic lake located in northern Washington County. Forest Lake consists of three main basins: first, second, and third lakes. The primary management species in Forest Lake are Walleyes (WAE) and Muskellunge (MUE), and both species are currently maintained through stocking efforts. Forest Lake is a popular Walleye and Muskellunge fishery for east Metro area anglers.

\nWalleye were sampled in all three basins during the 2015 survey, the average size was 18.7 inches and fish up to 29.5 inches were observed. The PSD, RSD20, and RSD24 of Walleyes sampled in 2015 were 76, 41, and 10 respectively. Otolith ages revealed 8 year classes, corresponding with stocking years. Growth was good, with Walleye reaching 12 inches by age-2, 17.25 inches by age-4, and 21.5 inches by age-6. Age-4 fish (2011 year class) made up the majority of the catch. The oldest fish sampled was a 16 year old female that was 29.5 inches long. Northern Pike (NOP) were sampled above the median abundance for class 24 lakes during the 2015 survey at 5.25 fish/net. The average pike sampled was 24.28 inches long, and pike up to 34 inches were present. Yellow Perch were sampled above the 3rd quartile for class 24 lakes, at 41.63 fish/net. This is the highest catch rate for Yellow Perch ever recorded in Forest Lake, and over twice the previous high of 20 fish/net sampled in 2005. The average Yellow Perch was 6.91 inches long with fish up to 10.87 inches sampled.

Forest Lake is a 2,251 acre lake comprised of three distinct basins and assigned to lake class 24. There are three public boat accesses available on the lake resulting in high recreational use. Zebra mussels were discovered in 2015. The primary management species in the lake are Walleye and Muskellunge both of which are maintained through stocking. Walleye fingerlings are stocked every year on a variable schedule of either 995 lb or 1,531 lb in order to evaluate the effectiveness of our stocking. Muskellunge are currently stocked with a target quota of 766 fingerlings per year. The lake was sampled with gill nets in July 2019. The previous survey was conducted in 2017.

\nWalleye were sampled at a rate of 5.5 fish per gillnet (highest catch since 1998) and above average for the lake class. Fish were also larger than previous surveys with a mean weight of 3.1 lb. Lengths ranged from 9.2 to 27.7 inches and averaged 20.3 inches. The bulk of the fish sampled were 15 to 24 inches and well distributed through that range. Most ages from 1 to 12 years were represented with the majority being 4 to 6 years old. Six fish were aged to 12 years old. Growth appears to be more than adequate with age and size distributions offering quality angling opportunities.
\n
\nNorthern Pike were sampled at the second highest rate in the lakes history with 10.3 fish per net. This is higher than average compared to similar lakes. Fish size was typical for the lake and the lake class with a mean weight of 2.7 lb. Fish ranged from 13.5 to 34.7 inches in length and averaged 22.7.
\n
\nYellow Perch were sampled at a rate that is typical for the lake class and the recent history of the lake with 19.6 fish per gill net. Mean weight was average for the lake class and equal to the previous several surveys at 0.13 lb. Lengths ranged from 4.8 to 8.8 inches and averaged 6.5 inches.
\n
\nBlack Crappie were sampled at a rate of 14.5 fish per net, more than double the previous survey but within the typical range of previous surveys. Average weight improved to 0.16 lb but this is still below average for the lake class. Fish ranged from 5 to 8.3 inches in length and averaged 6.6. Trap nets were not set during this survey so it is difficult to tell if the larger end of the size structure was missed by gill nets but this distribution is consistent with previous surveys. A single 15 inch White Crappie was sampled.

\nNo Muskellunge were sampled during this survey as they are sampled every 8 years during a separate spring effort with other gears. Other species sampled were: Black Bullhead, Bluegill, Common Carp, Hybrid Sunfish, Largemouth Bass, Pumpkinseed, Rock Bass, and Yellow Bullhead.

Forest Lake (lake class 24) is comprised of three basins and each basin is sampled in proportion to its size (in surface acres.) Data for all basins is combined to facilitate an analysis of the lake fish populations as a whole. Surface acreage is 2,251 acres; with 1,531 acres being littoral (68%) and has a maximum depth of 37.0 feet. The lake has fair water quality with a maximum secchi dish reading during this survey of 6.0 feet (July 5th, 2021). The long term average water clarity is approximately 6.0 feet and there is no trend, up or down, in water quality data. There are three public boat accesses available on the lake resulting in high recreational use. Zebra mussels were discovered in 2015 and the impacts on the fishery and water clarity will be closely followed through DNR fisheries standard lake surveys which occur every two years. The primary management species in the lake are Walleye and Muskellunge both of which are maintained through stocking. Forest Lake is in the North Central Northern Pike Management Zone which has a protected slot of 22-26 inches and a harvest limit of two fish not longer than 26 inches and a ten fish limit under 22inches.

\nIn 2021, Walleyes were sampled above the median level for abundance with a gill net catch of 4.75 fish/set. The average size of Walleye sampled in 2021 was 16.7 inches. Aging of Walleye using otoliths (inner ear bones) revealed eight different year classes, with the 2016, 2017 and 2018 year class being the most abundant.
\nAlthough a primary management species for Forest Lake no Muskellunge were sampled during this assessment. To properly sample the Muskellunge population they are targeted every 8 years during a separate spring sampling effort with other gears. Targeted spring surveys to assess the Muskellunge population were conducted in 2015 and 2016 with the next Muskellunge targeted surveys being in 2026 and 2027. Electrofishing is the most appropriate gear type to sample Largemouth Bass and was utilized during this survey. Largemouth Bass were sampled at night on May 25th, 2021. The Largemouth Bass electrofishing catch rate was 62.25/hour of on time, an increase from 2015 night electrofishing catch rate of 14.0/hour of on time. Previously, daytime Largemouth Bass electrofishing had been conducted. A daytime electrofishing survey in 2014 had a catch rate of 34.46/hour of on time. The 2021 night electrofishing catch rate is indicative of a moderate to high abundance of Largemouth Bass when compared to other lakes in the East Metro Fisheries management area. Lengths of electrofished Largemouth Bass ranged from 4.1 to 16.5 inches with a mean of 10.8 inches. Northern Pike were sampled above the median level for abundance at a rate of 8.0 per gill net. The average size of Northern Pike sampled was 27.8 inches. Yellow Perch were sampled above the median level for abundance in gill nets. The average size of perch sampled was 6.5 inches. Bluegill abundance was slightly above average in trap nets 36.5 fish/net, and the average size Bluegill sampled in trap nets was 5.4 inches. Black Crappies were sampled in average abundance in gill nets at 5.6 fish/net and marginally below average in trap nets at 0.88/set in 2021. The average size of Black Crappies sampled in 2021 was 7.2 inches, with fish up to 11.0 inches.
\nOther fish sampled in low abundances were Pumpkinseed, Green and Hybrid Sunfish, Bowfin, Common Carp and Golden shiner.

Sunfish numbers were good, with a third of the fish over 6 inches in length, but very few over 7 inches. Crappie numbers were low, with fish of small size. Yellow perch numbers were good, with the largest 7.1 inches in length. Northern pike numbers were lower than in previous nettings, but fish were of good size, with 20% longer than 25 inches. Walleye were more abundant than in previous nettings, with 20% over 15 inches long. Largemouth bass were present in moderate numbers, with 40% of the fish sampled measuring at least 12 inches and the largest nearly 18 inches. Bullheads, black, brown, and yellow, were present in low numbers, but were of large size. Carp, bowfin, and rock bass were present in low numbers.

Forest Lake are Walleye and Muskellunge. Both species are currently being stocked biennially on odd numbered years. Walleye are stocked at a rate of 2.0 pounds/littoral acre (3,062 lbs.) and Muskellunge are stocked as fingerlings at a rate of 1.31 fish/littoral acre (2,000 fish).Walleye were sampled in all 3 lake basins above median levels for abundance with the average fish being 19.0\" in length and 2.74 pounds. Over 14% of the walleyes sampled measured 24.0\" or larger. Walleye growth rates were found to be fair. Muskellunge were sampled at the median level for abundance in gill nets with 5 of the 7 fish captured being 2-year olds (2001 stocked year class). Northern Pike were sampled at the median level for abundance with the average size individual being 21.4\" in length and 2.05 pounds. Approximately 9% of the NOP captured were 25.0\" or larger. Growth rate of NOP is average. Largemouth Bass were sampled at the median level for abundance with the average fish being 12.2\" in length and 1.23 pounds.Bluegill were sampled at the highest catch rate ever observed for this lake, however the average size fish was only 5.13\" and 0.09 pounds (11.1 fish/lb.). Approximately 19% of BLG sampled were 6.0\" or larger. Black Crappie were sampled above median levels for abundance in gill nets with 11.7% of the catch being 8.0\" or larger. The average BLC sampled was 6.7\" in length and 0.15 pounds (6.67 fish/lb.). Rock bass were relatively common with some quality individuals captured. Yellow Perch were sampled below the median level for abundance in gill nets and the average fish was 5.8 inches and 0.08 pounds. Yellow Perch catch rates were the highest observed since 1975.

the week of July 17th, 2017 by Fisheries Lake IBI program staff. Sampling stations were evenly spaced around the lake and each was sampled by backpack electrofishing and seining with a 50-foot seine, where possible. Backpack electrofishing was completed at all 24 stations with two sites sampled from the boat. Abundant emergent vegetation in deep water prevented the use of seines at three sampling sites. Nearshore sampling captured 22 native species of fish.

\nData from this targeted nearshore survey is combined with data from a standard gill and trap netting survey in July 2017 to calculate a Fish-based Index of Biologic Integrity (FIBI) score that describes the overall health of the lake. The FIBI uses fish community data to measure a lake's health, and the types of fish species present can help identify any stressors that may be negatively affecting the lake environment. The FIBI score, composed of several fish community diversity and composition metrics, indicates the overall health of a lake by comparing it to what is expected for a healthy lake. The FIBI score for Forest Lake based on this survey is above the impairment threshold for aquatic life use determined for similar lakes. Data from this survey will contribute biological information about the health of the fish community to the lower St. Croix River Watershed assessment process in coordination with MN Pollution Control Agency. Northern pike , bluegill, and hybrid sunfish were the only species taken in numbers significantly higher than the statewide median catch rate. White sucker, yellow perch, bowfin, carp, black bullhead, brown bullhead, yellow bullhead, green sunfish, pumpkinseed, rock bass, white crappie, and black crappie were each found to be lower in numbers than the statewide median. Golden shiners were taken only in trap nets. Northern pike numbers were over 2.5 times the local median. No single age class was significantly more abundant than another. I through VII annuli fish were all represented, indicating regular, substantial natural reproduction. II and III annulus fish showed average growth rates. Walleye numbers were higher than the local gill net median and not significantly different from 1975 catch figures. Although several age classes were found, IV annulus fish were most common by far. These fish are the result of a 1975 fingerling stocking. The growth rate of these fish was average.Largemouth bass were taken in the nets and represented several year classes. Shoreline seining revealed young of the year bass. Bluegill numbers were significantly higher than the local median. VI and V annulus, in that order, were the most abundant with all age groups from III to VII annuli represented. Bluegills at V and VI annuli exhibited slow growth. Black crappie numbers were substantially lower than the local median. Fish with II to VI annuli were present in the sample with II and IV annulus fish quite abundant and V annulus fish the most abundant. The II and IV annulus fish showed average growth and the V annulus fish slow growth. White crappie as well were present in numbers well below the local median. Several age classes (I through VII annuli) are present with fish of II, III, and IV annuli the three most abundant in descending order. Yellow perch numbers were not significantly different from the local median. III annulus fish with average growth rates were the most common of several (II through V annulus) ages found.Black and brown bullheads and carp were found to be in low numbers compared with the local median. All three species are represented primarily by large individuals. Yellow bullhead numbers are not significantly different from the local median and are also represented primarily by large individuals.

The increase in walleye catch rates may be a result of increased stocking rates. Two hybrid muskellunge were captured, both age I. No Wisconsin strain musky from the 1985 or 1986 stockings were sampled. Largemouth bass were sampled in low numbers; growth rates were average. Bluegill and black crappie are common but small; respective PSD% = 20 and 17. Other species present were bowfin, carp, golden shiner, white sucker, black and yellow bullheads, hybrid sunfish, green sunfish, pumpkinseed, white crappie, and yellow perch, all in numbers less than their local medians.

\nWalleye were sampled near the median level for abundance and above the median for mean weight in the gill net catch. The gill net catch rate reflected a decrease from the 2005 assessment (from 3.38 to 2.13 fish/set). This was likely due to the severe cold front conditions encountered during the sampling period and not an indication of a decrease in the WAE population. The average size of WAE sampled in 2007 was 19.2 inches and 2.64 pounds. Approximately 41 percent of all WAE captured measured 20.0 inches or longer. No Muskellunge were captured during this assessment. Northern Pike (NOP) were captured above the median level for abundance and within the historic normal catch rate range for the gill net sample in this lake. The average size of NOP captured was approximately 19.7 inches and 1.7 pounds. Only about 8 percent of sampled NOP measured 26.0 inches or larger. Yellow Perch were sampled in the lowest abundance since 1998. The average size of YEP sampled was 6.5 inches and 0.12 pounds. Approximately 6 percent of all YEP sampled measured 8.0 inches long or larger.

Eleven trap nets with a mixture of standard and extended leads were set and run daily for approximately 2 weeks in the three main basins (first, second, and third Forest) of Forest Lake in an effort to estimate the adult Muskellunge population. A Muskellunge 30\" or longer is considered an adult.
\n
\nThirty three adult Muskellunge were sampled and marked in 2015, and 38 were sampled in 2016 including 6 recaptures. The largest Muskellunge sampled in 2016 was 47\" in length. Forest Lake was estimated to contain an adult Muskellunge population of 179 individuals, although this estimate is likely low do to the difficulty of sampling some locations in 1st and 3rd lakes.
Forest Lake is primarily managed for Walleyes (WAE) and Muskellunge (MUE). Walleye stocking at the time of this assessment has been 2.0 pounds of fingerlings per littoral-acre (3,062 pounds) in odd numbered years. Starting in 2008, Muskellunge stocking currently consists of biennially stocking fall fingerlings at a rate of up to 1.5 fish/littoral-acre (2,296 fish).

\nIn 2013, Walleyes were sampled above the median level for abundance in the gill net catch (4.25 fish/set), while increasing from the 2007 assessment (2.13 fish/set). The average size of WAE sampled in 2013 was 18.1 inches and 2.5 pounds. Approximately 38 percent of all WAE captured measured 20.0 inches or longer. Two Muskellunge (MUE) were sampled during this gill net assessment. The MUE captured were 34.5 and 39.6 inches long and averaged 12.1 pounds. Northern Pike (NOP) were sampled above the median level for abundance for gill nets. The average size of NOP sampled was 22.9 inches and 2.7 pounds. Approximately 17 percent of sampled NOP measured 26.0 inches or longer. Yellow Perch (YEP) were sampled above the median level for abundance in gill nets. The average size of YEP sampled was 6.5 inches and 0.12 pounds. Approximately 3 percent of all YEP sampled measured 8.0 inches long or larger.

Forest Lake is comprised of three basins and each basin is sampled in proportion to its size (in surface acres.) Data for all basins is combined to facilitate an analysis of the lake fish population as a whole. Forest Lake is categorized in lake class 22. Surface acreage is 2,251 acres; with 1,531 acres being littoral (68%) and the lake has a maximum depth of 37.0 feet. The lake has fair water quality with a maximum secchi dish reading during this survey of 5.0 feet (July 5th, 2017). The long term average water clarity is approximately 6.0 feet and there is no trend, up or down, in water quality data. Forest Lake was infested with zebra mussels in 2015 and the impacts on the fishery and water clarity will be closely followed through DNR fisheries standard lake surveys which occur every two years.

\nForest Lake is primarily managed for Walleyes and Muskellunge and secondarily for Largemouth Bass and Black Crappie. Walleye stocking was changed to an annual stocking of fingerlings in 2017. A variable schedule is in place in which either 1.0 pounds of fingerlings per acre or 0.65 pounds of fingerlings per acre is stocked. This will allow a better assessment of the Walleye stocking success in Forest Lake by having variable densities of fingerlings. Muskellunge stocking currently consists of biennially stocking of fall fingerlings at a rate of 0.5 fish/littoral-acre (766 fish).

\nIn 2017, Walleyes were sampled above the median level for abundance with a gill net catch of 3.75 fish/set. The average size of Walleye sampled in 2017 was 19.8 inches and 3.0 pounds. Over one-half of all Walleye sampled this year measured 20.0 inches or longer. Aging of Walleye otoliths (inner ear bones) revealed six different year classes, with the 2011 year class being the most abundant (average size: 20.6 inches) followed by the 2013 year class (average size: 18.6 inches).

\nThree Muskellunge were sampled during this assessment. They measured 17, 39 and 42 inches in length. Northern Pike were sampled above the median level for abundance at a rate of 4.50 per gill net. The average size of pike sampled was 23.9 inches and 3.0 pounds. Yellow Perch were sampled above the median level for abundance in gill nets. The average size of perch sampled was 6.6 inches.

\nAs part of the 2017 lake survey an Index of Biotic Integrety for fish was conducted. This involves sampling nearshore species and non-game species. Backpack electrofishing and seining at locations around the shoreline produced 27 different species of fish including fish such as Brook Silverside, Tadpole Madtom, Least Darter, Iowa Darter, Blackchin Shiner and Pugnose Shiner.

Forest Lake is a 2,251 acre lake comprised of three distinct basins and assigned to lake class 24. There are three public boat accesses available on the lake resulting in high recreational use. Zebra Mussels were discovered in 2015. The primary management species in the lake are Walleye and Muskellunge both of which are maintained through stocking. Walleyes fingerlings are stocked every year on a variable schedule of either 995 lbs. or 1531 lbs. in order to assess density dependent effects on recruitment to the fishery. Muskellunge are currently stocked with a target quota of 766 fingerlings per year. The lake was sampled with gill nets in July 2023. The previous survey was conducted in 2021.
\nWalleye were sampled at a rate of 9.8 fish per gillnet, the highest catch ever recorded. This is above the 75th percentile for the lake class. Fish size was typical relative to previous surveys with a mean length of 18.6 inches which is larger than average for the lake class. Lengths ranged from 12.7 to 26.7 inches with the bulk of the fish between 16 and 24 inches and well distributed through that range. Ages of fish were mostly between 3 and 6 years of with a handful of fish ranging up to 11 years old. Growth appears to be adequate with age and size distributions offering quality angling opportunities. The management goals for size and abundance are being met.
\nNorthern Pike were sampled at a rate of 4.5 fish per gill net. This was substantially lower than the previous two surveys catch rates but slightly higher than average for the lake class and more in line with catch rates historically sampled from the lake. Average size was the largest in sampling history with a mean length of 25.3 inches. This exceed the 75th percentile for the lake class. Fish lengths ranged from 17 to 34.7 inches with several of those fish exceeding 30 inches in length.
\nYellow Perch were sampled at a rate much lower than any other survey in recent history with a catch rate of only 6.3 fish per gill net. This rate is lower than average for the lake class but still within the interquartile range. Size was similar to previous surveys with a mean length of 6.3 inches and ranging from 5.6 to 8 inches.
\nNo Muskellunge were sampled during this survey but they are sampled during a separate spring effort with other gears. Other species sampled were: Black Bullhead, Black Crappie, Bluegill, Golden Shiner, Hybrid Sunfish, Largemouth Bass, Pumpkinseed, Rock Bass, White Sucker, and Yellow Bullhead.

The primary management species in Forest Lake are Walleye and Muskellunge. Both species are currently being stocked biennially in odd numbered years. Walleye are stocked at a rate of 2.0 pounds/littoral acre (3,062.0 lbs.) and Muskellunge are stocked as fingerlings at a rate of 1.31 fish/littoral acre (2,000 fish).Walleye were sampled in all 3 lake basins above the median level for abundance with the average fish being 18.95\" in length and 2.65 pounds. Over 48% of the Walleyes sampled measured 20.0\" or larger. Walleye growth rates were found to be average, with age IV fish being approximately 16.0\" in length. The 1999 and 2001 stocked year classes were captured in the highest abundance, while the 2003 year class was poorly represented in the sample despite their large size at the time of stocking. Northern Pike were sampled at the highest gill net catch rate ever observed for this lake. The average size fish captured was 22.2\" in length and 2.7 pounds. Good numbers of Northern Pike were sampled for all year classes from 1999 to 2003, inclusive. Growth rates were found to be average.Yellow Perch were also sampled above median levels for abundance in gill nets and at the highest catch rate recorded for this lake since 1975. A Spring netting assessment was conducted in 2005 to sample the Muskellunge population.

Both species are stocked every other year - walleye at 2 pounds per littoral acre and 2000 muskellunge. Largemouth bass are a secondary management species. The walleye population has been expanding. Walleye catch rate in 1998 was the highest recorded. Lengths ranged from 7.5 to 27 inches with most fish between 16 and 21 inches and an average length of 17.5 inches. The muskellunge population also appears to be expanding based on the results of spring netting conducted in 1998 (reported separately). One third of the muskellunge sampled were over 40 inches long. The northern pike population is stable with moderate numbers of medium sized fish. Lengths ranged from 10.5 to 28.5 inches with a 21 inch average. Bluegill were the most abundant species sampled but were small with an average length of 5 inches. Black crappie were moderately abundant and also small with an average length of 6.5 inches. White crappie were sampled in low to moderate numbers. There were two dominant size groups - one at 8 to 8.5 inches and one at 11.5 to 12.5 inches. Largemouth bass were sampled in moderate numbers but size distribution could not be adequately assessed because electrofishing was not conducted. Pumpkinseed were abundant but small. Small hybrid sunfish, green sunfish, yellow perch, and rock bass were all sampled in low to moderate numbers. Moderate numbers of yellow bullheads were sampled with an average length of 12 inches and nearly one third over 12 inches.

Forest Lake is one of the most popular lakes for anglers targeting Muskellunge in the East Metro area. Muskellunge are currently stocked annually as fall fingerlings at the rate of 0.5 fish per littoral acre (766 fish). An ice-out trap net assessment was conducted on Forest Lake in the spring of 2015 to assess the status of the Muskellunge population. The CPUE of Muskellunge caught in trap nets during this assessment was 0.28 fish/net. The average length of Muskellunge sampled in the 2015 survey was 41 inches, with fish up to 51 inches sampled. The RSD40 and RSD45 of Muskellunge sampled in this survey were 74 and 25 respectively. Catches of Largemouth Bass (0.59/net), Northern Pike (0.24/net), and Walleye (0.41/net) were also within the range of previous ice-out trap net surveys. The average size of Largemouth Bass sampled in this survey was 13.25 inches, with fish up to 18.50 inches sampled. Northern Pike averaged 21 inches with fish up to 33.25 inches sampled, and Walleye averaged 21.5 inches with fish over 28 inches sampled.

acre lake comprised of three distinct basins and assigned to lake class 24. There are three public boat accesses available on the lake resulting in high recreational use. Zebra Mussels were discovered in 2015. The primary management species in the lake are Walleye and Muskellunge both of which are maintained through stocking. Walleyes fingerlings are stocked annually on a variable schedule of either 995 or 1531 pounds. Muskellunge are currently stocked with a target quota of 766 fingerlings per year. The lake was sampled with gill nets and trap nets in July 2025 primarily to assess the Walleye population and provide fish composition information to be used in an Index of Biotic Integrity survey. The previous survey was conducted only with gill nets in 2023.
\nWalleye were sampled at a rate of 7.9 fish per gill net. Fish size was larger than average for the lake class but similar to previous surveys with a mean length of 19 inches. Lengths ranged from 7.5 to 27 inches and were well distributed within that range. Ages ranged from 1 to 15 years with 7 year olds being the most abundant having twice as many sampled as any other year class. Growth appears to be adequate with age and size distributions offering quality angling opportunities.
\nNorthern Pike were sampled at a rate of 11.8 fish per gill net. This was substantially higher than the previous survey catch rate of 4.5 fish per gill net and was the highest rate sampled in the history of the lake. Fish size did not diminish with a mean length of 25.6 inches. Fish lengths ranged from 10 to 36 inches with 11% of the catch exceeding 30 inches.
\nYellow Perch were sampled at a rate of 13.6 fish per gill net. This was a substantial increase over the previous survey's rate of 6.3 fish per gill net and is a more typical catch for both the lake and the lake class. Size remained small with a mean length of 6.2 inches and a maximum length of 8 inches.
\nAlthough summer trap nets were used to sample both Bluegill and Black Crappie populations for an Index of Biotic Integrity survey, spring panfish trap net surveys are best for describing Minnesota's panfish populations. Similarly, one 43.5 inch Muskellunge was sampled in trap nets but their population is better evaluated by separate spring surveys. Other species sampled during this survey were: Black Bullhead, Brown Bullhead, Common Carp, Hybrid Sunfish, Largemouth Bass, Pumpkinseed, Rock Bass, and Yellow Bullhead.
